Power

Someone mentioned power so I'll tell the basics and If I'm wrong on anything please let me know, becuase I'm not a electrician and I only know what I have done and has worked for me with about 50 people. Also you can find a power guide at http://www.fwgg.org.

Power is pretty simple. You need to route your power to not blow circuits as you know. Questions to think about when setting up a LAN w/power:

Questions:

1. How many computers and monitors will there be?
2. Which circuits do these wall outlets go to?
3. Where is the main power panels?
4. What equipment will I need?

Answers:

1. Ok. Plan on AT LEAST 2 amps per computer and monitor. That is the absolute minimum. So if you have a 20amp circuit, you can fit 10 computers on it. Many people will say allow at least 3 amps per computer, but until I break a circuit planning on 2 amps per, I'll use 2. Most circuits come in either 20 or 25 amp sizes.

2. You will want to map out the circuits and write them down and make sure you have them wth you at all times. So that you can route all of the cables and make sure that you don't overload a circuit.

3. You will need to know where these things are so you can flip the breaker if you break one, and so you can map the circuits.

4. You will need to get a circuit finder at your local Home Depot, Sears, or where ever. You plug a thing in an outlet and wave a wand along the circuit breakers and it makes noise. Its the loudest and beeps when its on the right circuit. I find that it works well. It would also be good to have a circuit tester, simply plug it in and it lights up if the circuit has power to it.

I know I didn't go into a lot of detail but that's really all you need to know, well I could have missed something. So post your replys, questions, here and game on. YYIIPPEEEE!!!!

Mapping out your power is very important. While getting ready for a party this weekend I found out some scary news. The living room where I am planning the party has a couple of unused outlets on one wall that I planned on using.
I found out that is all on one 15 amp circuit. On that circuit is also, two ceiling fans w/halogen lights, TV, stereo, CD, DVD, VCR, DSS system, 1PC, two table lamps, Garage outlet, Garage lights (4 flourescent fixtures). This is also used when we vacuum. All this time I have only blown the breaker once when the vacuum was on the fritz.

Its a good thing I had a couple of more outlets put into the garage last year. Two 15 amp circuits that aren't used (well won't be in use).
